OutsideQuadSallyPortWelcome to The Quadrangle at Fort Sam Houston, home of US Army North (Fifth Army) and the Fort Sam Houston Museum.

Built in 1876-77 as a supply depot, the Quadrangle has housed six Army headquarters, starting with the Department of Texas in 1881.  Since then it has been home to the Southern Department, the VIII Corps Area, the Third Army, the Fourth Army and the Fifth Army, which is now called Army North.

It has been a National Historic Landmark since 1976.

The Quadrangle and the Fort Sam Houston Museum are open to the public, but because this is located on an active military installation, there are some security procedures that need to be followed. Please see the “Access” page under the About menu for detailed information on how to get on the base and directions to the public parking and entrance by the Sally Port.
